Biology Department young researchers join ASBMR Class of Fellows
The American Society of Bone and Mineral Research (ASBMR) recently held its Annual Meeting which saw two young scholars from Professor Xiao Guozhi’s research team at the Department of Biology win ASBMR young Investigator awards for their presentations.
The two young scholars are Lei Yiming, a SUSTech graduate and Wang Yishu, a doctoral student from SUSTech-HIT joint program.
At the annual conference, the two young scholars presented their latest outcomes to the audience. They were guided by Professor Xiao Guozhi and Research Associate Professor Cao Huiling.
Wang Yishu presented on "Focal adhesion proteins Pinch1 and Pinch2 regulate bone homeostasis in mice", in which she introduced the progress in the molecular mechanism of bone homeostasis regulation. This presentation earned her the "ASBMR Young Investigator Award".
Lei Yiming displayed a poster with the theme "Pinch regulates chondrogenesis by control of TGF-beta 1 signaling and expression of Sox9 and Runx2 in chondrocytes". The poster was deemed to be a high-quality poster that helped win him the "Young Fellows Award for Education in Emerging Countries."
The American Association for Bone and Mineral Research (ASBMR) is a professional scientific and medical association that brings together clinical and experimental scientists in bone and mineral metabolism research. It aims to promote the development of bone, mineral and musculoskeletal Sciences worldwide, and promote the transformation of basic and clinical research to improve human health. ASBMR has about 4000 members worldwide and has global influence in basic research and clinical application of orthopedics.
The ASBMR Class of Young Fellows aims to reward outstanding young scholars who report at the annual meeting. Only a small number of outstanding young scholars are awarded this honor every year.
