报告摘要:

My group has been investigating the fundamental mechanisms and functions of autophagy, an intracellular degradation system highly conserved among eukaryotic cells, using the budding yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae, with a special focus on the molecular mechanisms governing autophagosome biogenesis and selective autophagy of organelles. In this seminar, I will talk about how we discovered the selective autophagy pathways ER-phagy and nucleophagy, in which portions of the ER and the nucleus, respectively, are sequestered within autophagosomes and delivered to the vacuole for degradation. I will then discuss the physiological significance of nucleophagy and present our recent finding that ER-phagy preferentially degrades specific ER proteins and how this selectivity is achieved.

嘉宾简介:

Professor Hitoshi Nakatogawa earned his Master’s degree in 1999 and his Ph.D. in 2002, both in Chemistry from the Graduate School of Science, Kyoto University. In 2005, he joined the National Institute for Basic Biology, where he served as an Research assistant and later an Assistant Professor. In 2009, he moved to the Tokyo Institute of Technology, where he held appointments as a specially appointed assistant professor and specially appointed associate professor. He was appointed associate professor in 2014 and was promoted to professor at the Institute of Innovative Research, Tokyo Institute of Technology in 2023.

His research has long focused on elucidating the molecular mechanisms and physiological functions of autophagy. He is a member of the Japanese Biochemical Society, the Molecular Biology Society of Japan, and the Genetics Society of Japan, and has served on committees of related academic organizations. His work has been recognized with several prestigious national awards, including the 2024 Nagase Science and Technology Foundation Award, the 13th JSPS Prize in 2017, the Young Scientists' Prize from the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology in 2014, and the Japanese Biochemical Society Young Investigator Award in 2013.
